I am having an issue with my 2010 tdci mk4 mondeo with 145k miles. When I cold start the car it starts one time every time and idles well with no smoke coming out of the exhaust, as soon as i start driving after about 50m it begins smoking terribly, bellowing large amounts of smoke which is smelly, putrid, stings the eyes and catches on to clothes.

So I risked a few quid on a cleaning spray and gave the MAF sensor a bit of a blast. And now the engine is smooth and quiet. All of the issues have disappeared and it's my new tractable and quiet friend, i.e. it's how a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi should be. It's such a great drive. Good work! Only get smoke when the engine is first started when cold and the outside temp is cold. No smoke on hot days or when the car has been run for awhile. Again when cold and first start the engine will splutter and try to stall at around 1500 - 1800 rpm (like the engine is over fueling or starving) not sure which.
