The Miata RF, with its hardtop design, is at least a bit quieter than the regular soft-top Miata. The BRZ ultimately pulls ahead in this category by being a bit roomier. Taller drivers, in particular, will find the BRZ’s cabin to be less cramped than the Miata RF’s. You even get two dinky rear seats in the BRZ.
It comes in Sport, Club, and Grand Touring trims. Unfortunately, the base Sport trim is only available with a soft top, but you can opt for a power-retractable hardtop with Club and Grand Touring models. Mazda calls the hardtop version the MX-5 Miata RF (retractable fastback).
It's a minimal convertible. The RF makes more noise with the top down than the soft top, but less noise with the top up compared to the ST. The "targa" sails make a lot of noise, but it's not deafaning like riding a motorcycle without earplugs. It's quieter and more comfortable than a Lotus Elise.
